This could cause your vehicle battery to lose charge. Do not drive your vehicle if you smell exhaust fumes. Carbon monoxide is present in exhaust fumes. Take precautions to avoid its dangerous effects. This could cause an electric shock or fire. The pressure in an overfilled tank may cause leakage and lead to fuel spray and fire. If you hear a hissing sound near the fuel filler inlet, do not refuel until the sound stops. Fuel such as gasoline is highly toxic and if swallowed can cause death or permanent injury.

If fuel is swallowed, call a physician immediately, even if no symptoms are immediately apparent. It corrodes some metals and causes some plastic and rubber components to swell, break down or become brittle and crack, especially when mixed with gasoline. Special materials and procedures have been developed for flexible fuel vehicles and the dispensers used by ethanol fuel providers.

Do not use fuels with a posted octane rating below Page Refueling Fuel and Refueling Note: Do not use aftermarket funnels; they will not work with the capless fuel system and can damage it. The included funnel has been specially designed to work safely with your vehicle.

Insert the fuel nozzle slowly. If you hear a hissing sound near the fuel filler door, do not refuel until the sound stops. Otherwise, fuel may spray out, which could cause serious personal injury.

Page Fuel Consumption Fuel and Refueling 3. Open the fuel filler door and remove any visible debris from the fuel fill opening. Page Fuel and Refueling 3. After at least three to five tank fill-ups, fill the fuel tank and record the current odometer reading.

Subtract your initial odometer reading from the current odometer reading. Calculate fuel economy as follows: Standard: Divide miles traveled by gallons used. Metric: Multiply liters used by , then divide by kilometers traveled. Page Fuel and Refueling These temporary malfunctions can be corrected by filling the fuel tank with good quality fuel, properly closing the fuel fill inlet or letting the electrical system dry out. After three driving cycles without these or any other temporary malfunctions present, the service engine soon indicator should stay off the next time the engine is started.

A complete check may take several days. Turn the ignition to the off position and remove the key whenever you leave your vehicle. Page Transmission D Drive The normal driving position for the best fuel economy.

Refer to Fuses and relays in the Roadside Emergencies chapter. To start the vehicle: 1. Make sure the parking brake is fully set. When you leave the vehicle, always apply the parking brake and shift the transmission into P Park for automatic transmission or 1st gear for manual transmissions. Press the brake pedal to bring the vehicle to a complete standstill.

Keep the brake pedal pressed. If the sensors detect that the vehicle is on a slope, the hill start assist feature will be activated automatically. If a metal-to-metal, continuous grinding or continuous squeal sound is present, the brake linings may be worn out and should be inspected by an authorized dealer.

If your vehicle has continuous vibration or shudder in the steering wheel while braking, you should take it to an authorized dealer for inspection. The anti-lock brake system lamp momentarily illuminates when the ignition is turned on. If the light does not illuminate during start-up, remains on or flashes, the anti-lock brake system may be disabled and may need to be serviced.

If your vehicle begins to slide, the system applies the brakes to individual wheels and, when needed, reduces engine power at the same time. If the wheels spin when accelerating on slippery or loose surfaces, the system reduces engine power in order to increase traction. Sensing is only an aid for some generally large and fixed objects when moving in reverse on a flat surface at parking speeds. Traffic control systems, inclement weather, air brakes, and external motors and fans may also affect the function of the sensing system; As the vehicle moves closer to the obstacle, the rate of the audible warning increases.

When the obstacle is fewer than 12 inches 30 centimeters away, the warning sounds continuously. Department of Transportation requires Ford Motor Company to give you the following information about tire grades exactly as the government has written it.

Page Wheels and Tires Treadwear The treadwear grade is a comparative rating based on the wear rate of the tire when tested under controlled conditions on a specified government test course. The relative performance of tires depends upon the actual conditions of their use, however, and may depart significantly from the norm due to variations in driving habits, service practices, and differences in road This information identifies and describes the fundamental characteristics of the tire and also provides a U.

Page Wheels and Tires E. If you change your wheel size, you will have to purchase new tires to match the new wheel diameter. It is an index that relates to how much weight a tire can carry. Page Wheels and Tires H. The next two numbers or letters are the plant code designating where it was manufactured, the next two are the tire size code and the last four numbers represent the week and year the tire was built. Page Wheels and Tires M.

These differences are described below. Note: The temporary tire size for your vehicle may be different from this example. Page You are strongly urged to buy a reliable tire pressure gauge, as automatic service station gauges may be inaccurate. An owner's manual is usually packed with guides on how to operate the car safely and how to maintain it.

The years available stretch from through to and to view the manual you just click the name underneath. In an attempt to create a compact car that could be sold globally by the auto manufacturer designers hit the drawing board and created the Ford Focus.

It sits above the Fiesta in terms of size and price and competes with other compacts such as the Mazda3 and Toyota Corolla. The British and German teams that worked on the original hatchback in the mid to late s set out to replace the aging Ford Focus and create something that could be sold all around the world.

Shortly afterward in came the sporty RS trim that boasted a 2-liter turbocharged engine and limited-slip-differential on the front axle the only one that was powered. Eventually, the release of the second-generation Ford Focus happened in and saw the car grow much larger and obviously longer with a stiffer bodyshell and more comfortable ride.

The first performance trim for the second generation was named the ST and featured a bhp 5 cylinder turbocharged engine from Volvo. Then the RS trim from the first generation made an appearance on the second generation in featuring an up-rated version of the ST engine.
