I am having trouble with my Time Capsule's wireless range. Thanks so much for the great info on these forums! Back to top. Posted: Tue Nov 10, Post subject:. My apologies I am paranoid about losing my settings. Is it best to do the nvram backup file, flash the firmware and then restore the nvram backup file? I just don't want to lose my settings. I could see the AE start to flash as I got closer to it. It transferred the connection seamlessly and back again when I got close to the TC. I kept the same IP address no matter where I went. The AE would just relay the traffic to the TC. I was able to talk wired to the AE which then spoke wireless back to the TC.
Hmmm, maybe a good way to get an wired remote machine to network without having to run cables. Hold down the "Option" key when selecting the "Wireless Mode" drop down. It will provide you with additional options…. I'm going to say this isn't so simple as you pretend. I had an existing WDS network with I have spent several hours over the last two weeks trying to make WDS work with the Time Capsule as the main and one Express as a remote — I have wireless with the main but the Express disappears from Airport Utility and is flashing yellow — error status.
This may be simple if you go buy all new hardware, but currently I don't have functional WDS and management for multiple base stations. Poor choice of words? I don't post anything here that I have not done myself.
My experience is exactly as detailed above. When you connect base stations wirelessly in a WDS, you set up each base stations as a main base station, a remote base station, or a relay base station. Also, in this setup. You kow, Ting, it might be time to buy that TimeCapsule afterall, lol As an aside, I went into the Apple Skunkworks lab last night my house and production network- lol.
The TC is cabled to my cable modem and served as my main base station. If I went to the AE, throughput would be halved but was not unbearable. It worked as the WDS spec advertized.
