This is a problem between me and Steam specifically. It's not a specific game either. Numerous games of mine have launched updates too big for my "restart steam constantly" method especially PUBG with its 5gb update.
In addition, when I try to restart Steam, the game downloads have to pause. No matter what I do, pausing it before restarting or having it pause while I restart, it freezes my steam and never ever pauses the game download. I have to kill it in task manager.
EDIT: I'm not an idiot btw. I have searched the issue numerous times. Hence why it took me a week and a half to post this.
None of the discussions I found have had conclusive solutions. Some I have tried and it never worked. EDIT 2: I'm gonna list some possible solutions here that will compile solutions from other discussions and whatever is below. Then I restarted my modem and it began to download my games at a fast speed. Could this possibly work for anyone else? Last edited by Jordan ; 2 Jun, pm. Showing 1 - 15 of 54 comments.
View Profile View Posts. I can't find a definitive fix anywhere. It seems like the manifest isn't matching what it's trying to download and isn't able to complete the install or update as a result.
If there's a definite fix for this beyond the simple tips with region, download cache, etc. What I've tried: 1. Common tips from support. Backing up the game from another machine and restoring it to this machine. Backing up the downloaded files, uninstalling, placing the downloaded files in to the game folder and having it examine the existing files to install from. It still wants to download a little more and fails. Money View Profile View Posts. Same here, It just continuously stops and starts.
I have no idea whats causing it. Hey guys, this seems to be a relatively common issue this past week or so. The most helpful fix seems to be changing your download region to somewhere outside the US. I've already tried reinstalling Steam, the beta client, etc. It also is game-specific it seems. They also totally killed my network performance, and hogged my system down. Task manager reports 22MB download pull from Steam, even though game is not progressing.
Try out several far away download regions, and perhaps beta client.. So, should I just try again later? Kentucky Route Zero is an example of this; even though the game is actually finished downloading I can go to the Steam folder and launch it , Steam seems to think that it hasn't finished downloading it! I changed to a download region other than US and it worked afterwards.
Try doing what Danny said. Alternatively restart your computer and while your computer is restarting turn your router off and the on again before the restart is completed. For some reason doing it that way always solved any problem for me, no idea why.
